Samantha Herd has nearly two decades of experience in public policy advocacy, organizing and community relations at the local, state and federal levels of government. She currently serves as Outreach Coordinator for ProgressOhio Education, Ohio’s largest progressive advocacy organization.
Herd has worked in an official capacity for many Ohio progressive officeholders, most recently as District Director for two well-respected members of the U.S. Congress, Mary Jo Kilroy (OH-15) and Betty Sutton (OH-13). She began her career in public service as a Cincinnati City Council aide, and moved up to serve as the Chief of Staff to a Cincinnati Mayor. She has also served as a legislative aide in the Ohio House of Representatives.
In addition to her political experience, Samantha has been a passionate advocate for strengthening community services. She served as Public Policy Director for the Ohio United Way, where she led efforts to expand Ohio’s statewide 2-1-1 system. From 2001 through 2002, she worked as the chief fundraiser for the urban branches of the YMCA of Greater Cincinnati, ensuring that children and families had a safe place to spend their time.
At ProgressOhio, Samantha leads the organization’s Women, Work & Wages campaign, which advocates for equal pay, raising the minimum wage and paid parental leave.
Samantha earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from the University of Cincinnati, where she was appointed as the undergraduate student trustee on the Board of Trustees.
