Pro-Choice Groups: Elections signal ‘dangerous’ time for women

Four groups that lead Ohio’s fight for abortion rights said the re-election of Gov. John Kasich and Attorney General Mike DeWine do no signal a statewide endorsement of their anti-choice views but do signal “a dangerous time for women’s health policies.”

“By no means is this fight over. We will continue to engage our supporters to fight for reproductive justice and women’s health,’’ according to a joint statement by Kellie Copeland, NARAL Pro-Choice Ohio; Jasmine Burnett, New Voices Cleveland; Celeste Ribbins, Planned Parenthood Advocates of Ohio; and Nancy Pitts of PreTerm.

“Many voters expressed their opinion by not voting today,’’ according to the statement. “Even the editorial board of the Toledo Blade endorsed ‘none of the above’ in the gubernatorial race.’’

The groups said they will remain vigilant during the lame duck legislative session and will combine efforts for increased advocacy and awareness in the new legislative year.
