Wednesday marks the one year anniversary of the Shelby v. Holder decision, which invalidated a key provision of the Voting Rights Act. Voting rights advocates will deliver petitions to Speaker Boehner urging him to call a vote on the Voting Rights Amendment Act. Advocates will hold a press conference to discuss why Congress needs to act quickly to restore the full protections of the Voting Rights Act for all Americans. The Voting Rights Amendment Act is sponsored by Representatives Jim Sensenbrenner (R. Wisc.), John Conyers (D. Mich.), Steve Chabot, (R. Ohio), John Lewis, (D. Ga.), and other Members who support protecting voters from discrimination.
