DAYTON — The victim who was shot at the VA Medical Center in Dayton today struggled with the suspect over the weapon, and suffered minor injuries, Dayton police said.
The suspect, 59-year-old Neil Moore, is a former employee of the medical center. Moore retired from the housekeeping department.
He was taken into custody by hospital security at Good Samaritan Hospital, police confirmed. Moore arrived there seeking psychiatric help, according to police.
The victim is being treated at the VA emergency room, Dayton police said. He was identified as Paul Burnside, 61. He suffered a single gunshot wound to the ankle while he struggled with the suspect over the weapon, reportedly a revolver, said Dayton police Chief Richard Biehl.
Police said they do not have a motive.
The VA center is closed to the public for the remainder of the day, and all appointments are canceled until further notice, said Glenn Costie, director of the center.
