ProgressOhio cheers on Issue 1’s passage, urges immediate priority shift to Congressional redistricting reform in 2016
Thank you, Ohio.
By an overwhelming margin, we passed Issue 1, putting an end to our hyper-partisan system of designing districts for the Ohio Senate and Ohio House.
This will lead to more fair and geographically competitive elections–changes that will help bring about a stronger democracy and a more engaged citizenry.
Issue 1 received endorsements from more than 130 organizations, both major political parties, business and labor groups, liberals and conservatives.
This remarkable victory comes just weeks after Democrats and Republicans worked together to pass a tough, sweeping, and long overdue charter school reform law.
Let’s keep working together.
Now is exactly the time to recall that the passage of Issue 1 will not reform the way we design our congressional districts. So, let’s tackle that next. 2016 – the year of the end of gerrymandering in Ohio. What a thought.
