Monica Moran serves as the Managing Director of ProgressOhio, a post she assumed in September 2016, after serving both as a member and later Chair of the Board of ProgressOhio.
Monica, a Youngstown native, previously worked as the Public Affairs Director for SEIU District 1199 having started as an organizer with the local. Monica’s portfolio included legislative and electoral programs in Ohio, West Virginia and Kentucky and overseeing external communications. In addition, she directly advised the local’s president on overall union strategy. Monica is a veteran political operative of numerous candidate and issue campaigns, including managing the largest Independent Expenditure program in Ohio to re-elect President Obama and overseeing SEIU’s efforts during the successful Senate Bill 5 campaign that blocked collective bargaining restrictions in Ohio.
Monica was a key leader during the campaign to expand Medicaid in Ohio in 2013. She was integral in the formation of the Healthy Ohioans Work campaign that successfully advocated for the expansion using both an inside and outside the statehouse strategy praised for its innovative efforts.
Monica has three children and currently resides in Gahanna with her partner, Dominic. In addition, Monica currently serves on the Boards of UHCAN Ohio and The Franklin County Democratic Party Executive Committee.
