Due to technical issues, the plane has been rescheduled to circle before Game 2 Wednesday, October 26th.
Had Donald Trump Gotten His Way
There Would Be No World Series in Cleveland
CLEVELAND — Those who attend Game 1 of the World Series tonight will be reminded that the game would be playing somewhere other than Cleveland had Donald Trump gotten his wish to buy the team back in the 1980s.
The reminder will come courtesy of a plane that will circle Progressive Field from approximately 4-7 pm pulling this banner: TRUMP TRIED TO BUY & MOVE THE INDIANS!
Inspiring the banner is an Oct. 8, 2015, piece by Plain Dealer columnist Brent Larkin that details Trump’s efforts to buy the Indians, and the belief back then – and now — that he “would have wasted little or no time moving the team to another city.’’ The newspaper re-ran the column on Cleveland.com today.
“Ohio’s professional sports teams are not just businesses, they are part of our culture and our identity,’’ said ProgressOhio Executive Director Sandy Theis. “I doubt that legions were distraught when Trump Vodka, Trump Steaks or Trump University went belly up. But had Trump bought the Tribe and moved the team elsewhere, I know that millions of Ohioans would have been devastated.’’
ProgressOhio has been a persistent critic of Trump’s short-sighted policies and unsavory business practices. The organization recently made headlines by promoting political ads that highlight Trump’s habit of stiffing contractors who met their obligations to Trump-connected companies.
ProgressOhio is the state’s leading progressive advocacy organization. Theis is a life-long Ohio resident who grew up rooting for Cleveland sports teams.
